Texas Escapes SFA

Top D1 team Texas cruised to an easy 10 victory in Game 1, but from there things got difficult. The Longhorns needed a late 2-R homer from Clay Modgling to tie before winning game 2 by a score of 9-7. On Sunday, Stephen F Austin displayed their bats in a 21-14 shootout. Noah Adams (4-8 w/ HR) led the charge for SFA. Texas narrowly takes the series 2 games to 1.

Rice Drops #14 Houston

Rice’s outstanding pitching proved to be enough to take a critical early season series from #14 Houston. The Owls were led by Mike Vatcher and Daniel Kaplan on the hill with each earning a win. Combined they pitched 13 innings and allowed just 1 unearned run on 1 hit. Houston was able to secure 1 win in the series behind ace Patrick Brosch who was brilliant again in his start.

Lee Drops Doubleheader to LSC Montgomery

Lee College dropped both ends of a double header on Saturday against LSC-Montgomery. Lee was led by Cameron Mitchell at the plate (5-7) and Matt McCardle on the mound.

TCU Drops 2 of 3 to Nebraska

TCU opened up this weekend with a tough early season test. The Horned Frogs dropped 2-3 to the Corn Huskers but were encouraged by a strong pitching performance from Tom Elias who went 7 innings for the lone win while striking out 10.

SFA Impresses In Tight Series With Texas State

Stephen F Austin was once again out to prove it belongs. The Gulf Coast’s newest team battled through a great series with a high quality D1 opponent Texas State in 3 one run games. The team was lead by standout Jonathan Fletcher once again as he went 7-12 at the dish.

#15 Houston Impresses On The Road

The 15th ranked Houston Cougars took 2 of 3 from Kingwood on the road this weekend. Led by Patrick Brosch’s outstanding outing on the mound and Jared Sarabia’s big 3-R shot on Sunday, the Cougs rebounded from a disappointing start to the series.
